Swap screen time, for green time! Head outdoors to enjoy the stunning Sunshine Coast Hinterland!

Located just a short drive from the beautiful beaches on the coastline, the hinterland is home to lush rainforests, ancient volcanic peaks and natural beauty that will take your breath away.

Below we take a look at some of the townships of this spectacular region and what you can do there.

Glass House Mountains

Remnants of volcanic activity that occurred some 25-27 million years ago, the rocky outcrops that make up the Glass House Mountains are a sight to behold.

Take a drive through the area and stop at the amazing lookouts to take in the views and grab some photos. Or get active and enjoy some local activities such as rock climbing, bush walking, hiking and trail biking.

Stop by the Glasshouse Plantation, a working tropical orchard, to learn about growing fruit and nuts and producing honey and to pick up some delicious locally grown produce to enjoy during your stay.

Maleny

Take in the stunning views from One Tree Hill, visit a waterfall such as Gardners Falls or just enjoy the laid-back atmosphere in Maleny Village with it’s organic cafes, gift stores and historic hotel. You’ll also discover art galleries and a range of therapeutic services to rejuvenate the body and mind.

Maleny Botanic Gardens and Bird World is a picturesque destination where you can stroll through almost 18 acres of privately owned and superbly manicured gardens. There’s also a wide array of bird life to discover and meet at the onsite aviary.

Montville

Montville is a great destination for nature lovers and foodies alike. Be dazzled by the 90 metre waterfall, rock pools and crystal-clear creeks of Kondalilla National Park then get your culture vulture on and browse the many art galleries and studios of the region. For those that like to travel with their tastebuds you won’t be disappointed with charming wineries, world-class restaurants, coffee producers and great artisan products on offer.

Mapleton

The Mapleton Falls National Park is well worth a visit. Watch the water cascade down the 120m drop into the pools below from the viewing platforms and take in the vistas over the rolling green hills and rainforest.

Keen star gazers should check out the Mapleton Observatory where 4 amateur astronomers will  be happy to show you the night sky.
This is also a dream destination for hikers, mountain bikers and birdwatchers.

Kenilworth

The small town of Kenilworth is known for its rustic country charm. The first store opened in 1924 and the town retains much of its original character.

Home to the famous Kenilworth dairies, Kenilworth Historical Museum and  sweeping Mary Valley views. The region is also a good place for swimming in crystal clear waterholes and bushwalking.
