Just a short drive inland from the golden sands of the Sunshine Coast, the hinterland is a nature lover’s paradise, filled with lush rainforest, scenic lookouts, and breathtaking waterfalls. Staying at Elouera Tower Maroochydore, you’ll be perfectly positioned to explore some of the best waterfalls on the Sunshine Coast – a must for any holiday itinerary.

Buderim Serenity Falls

Only 15 minutes from Maroochydore, Buderim Falls, also known as Serenity Falls, is a year-round favorite, particularly spectacular after rainfall. The falls are set within Buderim Forest Park and accessible via two paths:

  • Harry’s Lane (off Lindsey Road): A 600m elevated boardwalk winds through sub-tropical rainforest and is suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. The boardwalk ends partway to the falls, with the final section over rugged terrain to the base of the waterfall. (This section of the path isn’t wheelchair or stroller friendly.)

  • Quorn Close Track: A steeper 350m bush track leads to the top of the falls. Quick but with numerous stairs, it’s best suited to those with moderate fitness.

Gardners Falls

Gardners Falls is ideal for a family day out. An easy 800m return walk from the carpark takes you past shallow rock pools perfect for paddling, growing larger as you approach the main waterfall.

Located along Obi Obi Creek in Maleny, the area is perfect for a relaxed picnic. Don’t miss sampling local cheeses and dairy treats from the Maleny region to enjoy alongside the creek.

Kondalilla Falls

Found within Kondalilla National Park on the traditional land of the Gubbi Gubbi people, Kondalilla Falls means “rushing water” in the local Aboriginal language – an apt description, especially in the summer wet season.

The hike to the impressive 90-metre waterfall is accessible from the Kondalilla Falls carpark:

  • Walk 100m downhill to a grassed picnic area with barbecues, tables, and toilets.

  • Follow the Picnic Creek Circuit through rainforest and open forest to a cool rock pool at the top of the falls.

  • Continue on the Kondalilla Falls Circuit, descending into lush rainforest for a stunning view of the base of the falls.

With over 300 stairs on the circuit, a reasonable level of fitness is required. This Grade 3 track is perfect for those looking for an active adventure in nature.
